Workshop: Pine Needle Basketry

Pine needle baskets are one of the oldest forms of baskets made in North America. Our iconic red pines were hit hard by ice and snow this winter, and have gifted us with many strong, aromatic, pine needles. When in an abundance of pine needles – why not create some baskets? Come learn to weave a simplified, coiled pine needle basket using a wild-crafted gauge, or straw. We’ll gather in peaceful chatter beneath the tall pines themselves (weather permitting). You can also try your hand at making some foraged cordage to add to your design. Participants do not need previous basketry experience. Those who do not finish can leave with extra materials to do so at home.
